Thankful Thursday

I went to an awesome music concert last night and I'm loving all the different types of music that we have available. I love how it helps us feel and understand things in the world and in life better. Music is amazing, so thankful for it.

My Weekly Notebook -- Week 28

Life this week...

I really wanted to go see the reptile man at the library, but I couldn't convince my teens that they needed to see the amazing reptiles. They said I could go without them. I told them it's kinda weird for adults to show up at kids activities with no kids. Man I miss those summer library events! They have some amazing shows during the summer. I'm gonna have to borrow some kids for the next one. Unfortunately, that's how most things are going this summer. I ask the teens if they want to go do something and the usual answer is, no. I've got to figure out how to get them outside!

I guess I should say, they have planned a few outings with their friends, and I've been able to get them to go to the park and play pickle ball a few times.

Homeschool this week...

We've only just begun to start thinking about school again (for the 8th and 11th graders). They both have math to catch up on so we're starting with that.

Mom-school this week...

I watched a video on how to change my roller skate wheels so I can put the outdoor wheels on. Pretty easy and straight forward.

Helpful homeschool tips and advice to share...

If you're not ready to start thinking about next school year, don't. Give yourself time this summer to relax!

Places we're going and people we're seeing...

The boys planned an outing to Portland with a friend. They wanted to go to the music store and get lunch. They picked a new place in Downtown Portland called Raising Canes. I had never heard of this place, but apparently they had and really wanted to try it. It was delicious!

Something I accomplished...

I went on a paddle board for the first time. It's a stand up paddle board, but I just sat the whole time. Reminded me a lot of a kayak with no sides. Much easier to get on and off!

What we're reading...

Currently reading The Hobbit with the boys. I am also finishing up The Collected Regrets of Clover.

Movies/TV we watched...

We (me, Alex, and Aric) watched through all of Season 4 of Stranger Things this week. Now Alex has finally finished the whole thing.

Outdoor time...

Currently we are at almost 191 hours of outside time.

LEGO...

I made my monthly calendar out of LEGO. This was my only MOC (my own idea). Most of my building this week has been sets.

I'm cooking/eating...

I'm starting to get my appetite back after going off a medication so I'm getting the desire to cook again. I will have something more in this category soon!

I'm grateful for...

I received a nice thank you card from a kind young man that I used to teach in Sunday school. Something he said in the note made my heart happy.

Books I finished--June 2024

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

I listened to this book for book club. Although I've started and tried to read it a few times previously, I was glad to have a reason to really push myself to read it this time. It was not what I expected! There's a bit of time travel, monsters, children with powers (peculiarities), and very hard to face realities of life. I also watched the movie after finishing it. Overall it was enjoyable, but I did find myself slogging through at times. It didn't grab my attention as much as I hoped it would. Probably why it took me a few times to get started.

Wife No. 19 by Anne Eliza Young

I forgot to grab a picture of the physical book before I returned it to the library but I did end up getting a digital version since I hadn't yet finished it, so this is the picture of one of the pages of the digital version.

This book is an autobiography of Anne Eliza Young's experience with polygamy and being the 19th wife of the prophet of the Mormon church in the late 1900's. It's written to bring light to the reality of polygamy and the difficulties that the wives and families faced. Overall this was a hard book to read for many reasons, but very informative and eye opening.

Thankful Thursday

We have recently discovered how fun pickle ball is and also that they put in some new courts right in our little city so we can go whenever it fits in. Now to learn how to play!

Thankful Thursday

We finally have our Christmas tree up! It's super late this year, but I'm thankful that it's finally here.
