My Weekly Notebook: Week 34

Life this week...

It was another hot week, but I see things about 10 degrees cooler for the coming week so I'm excited to hopefully be on the downward trend as we head into the month of September. We did have a thunder and lightning storm one night. It was exciting and kinda surprising because it wasn't in the forecast. I thought it was someone in my backyard with a flashlight at first. We got the slightest sprinkle too.

Homeschool this week...

We got an art lesson in this week. This was a fun art project from Art for Kids Hub. These crack me up. We drew our self-portraits of us playing Oculus. This was such a perfect project for him right now as he has been playing it quite a bit.

Places we're going and people we're seeing...

We went to the park and river on Friday. It was warm, but so so nice. I loved this tree that has decided it's time for fall.

Something I accomplished...

I finished this dried flowers LEGO set. I wanted this for some new fall decor. It's very pretty and I love it.

Movies/TV we watched...

I watched Batman Begins with Aric. He decided he wants to watch some Batman movies and I joined him because I thought it might be interesting. I enjoyed the movie time with him, and the movie.

Outdoor time...

We are at 388 hours for the year. (out of 1000)

LEGO...

We got out the BricQ motion set and repeated the first lesson because Alex wanted to do it again. We had fun building a contraption to push/move a ball across the table.

I'm cooking/eating...

I made black pepper chicken for dinner on Sunday night. You can find the recipe here: Omnivore's Cookbook. It was so good. I miss the black pepper chicken that Panda's Express used to have so I have to make something similar every once in a while at home.

Other thoughts from the week...

I am excited for fall. I already put out some fall gnomes. I am going to decorate with the rest soon!

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful today for the ability to create all kinds of things like art, food, decorations, and so much more. I may not always create the most beautiful stuff, but I'm thankful for the tools and ideas I am given.

My Weekly Notebook: Week 32

Life this week...

We are ending the week on a hot note with 100 + temps. It's supposed to continue into the new week for a few days. I really hope this is one of the last heat waves we have this summer. I'm ready for cooler temps. Maybe even some rain or snow. We were scheduled to be on a camping trip starting tomorrow (Monday) but we had to cancel due to the heat, so I'm glad we have a few more trips scheduled before summer is over.

Homeschool this week...

I hit some back to school sales and that got me a little excited so I picked up a few things. I couldn't resist this Star Wars notebook and folder. I can't wait to see what will go in them.

 Untitled

Mom-school this week...

I worked on a journal page in my brain games book, did some studying in my scriptures, read a meditation book, and built a lot of LEGO. Nothing really super, just the usual stuff.

Places we're going and people we're seeing...

Alex had a Parkour Games camp all week and he went every single day. This is such a great accomplishment for him. There were a few days where he said he was too tired to go, but he persevered anyway.

A few of our favorite things this week...

We have been loving these Johnny Pops this summer. I have been sitting outside at sunset and enjoying a popsicle as many days of the week as I can. These are yummy!

Things I'm working on...

I am working on slowing down. I'm really trying to find activities that slow my brain down. I find when I can focus on something that it helps me to not get overwhelmed. That's one of the reasons I do so much LEGO and reading.

Something I accomplished...

I completed this LEGO mosaic for a mosaic Monday challenge that I participate in on Instagram. These mosaics have actually been quite challenging for me. Coming up with something that looks aesthetically pleasing to me is not an easy task!

What we're reading...

I asked my Facebook friends for some ideas on something to read with certain requirements and I got quite a list now to work through. I decided to start with this one. So far it seems pretty good.

Movies/TV we watched...

We are continuing to make our way through Stranger Things. We are currently a few episodes into season 2.

Outdoor time...

Sadly very little time was spent outside this week as Alex had his parkour camp. He was too tired to do anything else. After the heat lets up we will get back to it.

Games we played...

Unfortunately no games were played at home. Alex played a lot of games at camp though!

LEGO...

I went to my first LUG meeting up in Portland. It was so scary, but I braved it and loved it. I am looking forward to getting more involved and making some new friends.

I'm cooking/eating...

A friend told us about Hippeas and I found this fun bag this week to try. They were delicious!

I'm grateful for...

I'm grateful for air conditioning and a cool place to be during this heat wave.

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for mom friends. The ones you make because your kids are friends and then the moms become really good friends. I have found some really great friendships this way!

My Weekly Notebook: Week 31

week30

 Life this week...

I've been trying to get back to sitting outside and watching the sunset in the evenings. Not only is it amazing to just be outside and enjoy the fresh air but it's also such a great time to just sit and think. I've also realized that I can take some great pictures which I just love doing.

Places we're going and people we're seeing...

We went to the river one day with some friends. It was nice but it was hot. I was not prepared to be sitting and roasting in the sun. I think I was starting to get a little warm and not feeling well. We had to leave earlier than I wanted to. I was so unprepared with any cool drinks and I couldn't get in the water because I didn't have my swimsuit on. After wards I had the thought that I should have just jumped in with my clothes. It would have helped and I'm sure I would have dried by the time we were ready to leave. Also we didn't bring our paddle boards and Alex was sad we didn't.

A few of our favorite things this week...

I was thrilled to find this cute pumpkin lamp from IKEA. I love it. It makes me so excited for all things fall.

Something I accomplished...

I worked on one of these vintage flower sticker pages from this new book I picked up at Costco recently. I thoroughly enjoyed doing this. Such a great way to keep myself busy while Alex jumped at Defy.

What we're reading...

We read Wish by Rosanne Thong. This is a fun book about how wishes are made around the world. Some were crazy, some were neat, and some were very familiar. I saw several wish traditions that have made their way into our American country/traditions.

 Untitled

Movies/TV we watched...

Alex decided he wants to watch Stranger Things so we started watching that this week. Problem is he wants to watch it all at once. It was hard to get him to stop. I think I'm gonna have to put a limit on it. Streaming can be so nice and convenient, but it can also be addicting and hard to stop. I also watched the new Dungeons and Dragons movie with the hubby.

Outdoor time...

We have 13 hours this week. Today alone we spent 5 hours at the beach. It was glorious. I long to be outside more.

Games we played...

We tried this new game: Guess in 10, States of America. Alex really liked it. I did too! We might have to figure out a way to make this one more challenging though.

 Untitled

LEGO...

I built this fun little polybag set, a friends' skate park. I built a lot of other things, but that's not what this post is about. I like to just show a little of what we did.

Untitled

Something that worked out great for us this week...

We were able to finally have a little family meeting around the fire with s'mores.

Other thoughts/funnies from the week...

Salem the cat makes us laugh daily.

ABC blogging: A is for August (first)

abcblog

The month of August is going to be our busiest month this summer. We have a few camping trips, many birthdays, and prep for back to (home)school. I'm looking forward to it all, but I'm also really wanting to hold onto these last few days of summer. I am hoping to just relax and enjoy it.

There used to be a bloghop (I think) where you'd post what your first day (of the month) looked like. Mine was busy, and I thought it'd be fun to post about what we did for this first ABC blogging through the alphabet post.

Untitled

Started the day out waiting in line at the LEGO store on release day (new sets) to get these pink parrot sets.

Untitled

After that we headed over to Hobby Lobby to kill some time until we were planning to meet friends at Defy. It was so fun to see the fall decor.

Untitled

After that it was time for Defy. I worked on a sticker by number vintage flower page. Found this book at Costco a few days ago. I loved doing this while sitting and visiting.

Untitled

I also put this LEGO Friends polybag together.

Untitled

After we got home it was down time until dinner and then I had a walk with the church ladies at the park. It was 90 degrees. I was super hot so I decided to take a swim in the pool. Felt so good!

Untitled

After the dip I relaxed a bit and then it was bedtime!

That wraps up the first day of August! And the first post for this round of ABC blogging.

Thankful Thursday

It's always a relief to not be sick anymore. I am thankful for feeling better after a sickness, and also for the healing power that the ...
