B is for Bird Bingo

I didn't really mean two have to abc blog posts in a row, but it is what it is. Today was the day for the letter B.

Who doesn't love a good game of BINGO?! We have a special version of bingo from Lucy Hammett's games called bird bingo. I never knew these bingo games existed until I found this little gem at Goodwill a few years ago. It turns out there are many other versions like body bingo, science bingo, and lots more. I did notice on their website that the newer version is mostly photographs. I love that our older one has drawings, but the pictures are pretty too.

We have played this bingo a few times over the years. It's a great game for a slow school day where we just want to take a little break, or like today when it's a sick day. I don't usually have any prizes, it's all for the fun of it.

Some close ups of the game pieces. I love the "FREE" space. Isn't it so fitting for us here in America? Honestly I didn't notice that until today when I was taking pictures of it.

These are the call cards. I forgot to get a picture of the back. They have a little snippet of each bird on the back. Sometimes I read them out loud as the kids are looking on their cards.

There are 6 game cards, and each card has a different layout, and some different birds, so there aren't any double winners at the same time.

  7. I love this! I will try to track the game down for us to use on down days - I really like the idea of the extra dimension to the game of descriptions of the birds on the back. Thanks for sharing!
