Saying goodbye to this blog

I have been feeling like changes were coming for the past few months. They came rather sooner than I thought they would when Alex asked to go to school this fall. It was a change that was very good for our family. It wasn't easy, but it has been very good. With that said, my focus has changed (also a good thing), and I feel I need to step away from blogging with homeschooling as my primary focus. I am really trying to decide if I even want to blog at all anymore, but have decided I at least want to have the option to blog over at my family blog. So, if you'd like to continue following our family adventures come join me over at my family blog: The Winz Family Adventures. This is where I'll be from now on! It hasn't been updated for a few years, so I've got some work to do. I hope to see you over there!

And That's A Wrap!

It's finally finished! We made it through the whole alphabet! This marks the end of ABC blogging for me. That doesn't mean I won't still post some of our LEGO builds and fun. In fact, there are some changes coming for me and blogging, so stay tuned. My co-host Chareen is also wrapping up in her post Blogging Through the Alphabet from A to Z. Join us in wrapping up your ABC blogging if you'd like!

Here are my wrap-up builds:

First, I made a Fall Leaf mosaic. The instructions can be found at Frugal Fun 4 Boys and Girls in the Fall LEGO Mosaic Ideas with Printable Cards blog post. I printed and laminated the cards last Fall, and pulled them out so we could have something easy and fun to build while listening to stories or watching movies.

I had to substitute some pieces, but it still looks like a leaf.

I also finished the Winnie the Pooh set from last week. That tree was sure fun and interesting to build.

I love the characters too.

Look at the log and campfire! It looks like a party.

Here's the inside of Pooh's tree house.

I love the box of Pooh sticks and hunny pots.

The details are fun.

LEGO ABCs: Z is for Zone

Here we are! The final letter of the alphabet, letter Z. I am thrilled to have made it all the way to the end! For this week's LEGO building fun I will share about our Zones. My co-host, Chareen is talking about Zoo Visits for Science on her blog.

There are many kinds of zones: construction zones, reading zones, end zones, time zones, you get the picture right? Today I'm talking about LEGO zones. Which, there are many of those too.

First, we have Emmett who works in a LEGO construction zone...

Next, we have The Play Zone on the LEGO website. A place where kids (or adults who like to) can play all kinds of games and watch things.

I played around with creating a DOTS bracelet.

But then there's my favorite zone, the building zone. Sometimes we have to move furniture to create a perfect building zone. For our building zone we moved part of the dining room table into the living room so we could build and watch a movie. The movie was Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie because...

...I opened an early birthday present! My Winnie the Pooh set. I thought it would be fun to get in the Pooh zone and watch a family favorite while I built it. Alex joined me building a different set. I am so excited for this set because I love Winnie the Pooh.

Time to start building!

 The characters are so cute!

Alex built this Technic set to add to his and his dad's race car collection. It's a good challenge for him this week as he has a few days off school.

Looking at all the bags laid out is very exciting!

Technic pieces are very cool. Love these colors too!

He went and got all the race cars to show he's adding to the collection...

Y is for Yahtzee (Games ABC)

I am really excited for this week's board game ABC post! Yahtzee! Not just any Yahtzee though...Yard Yahtzee with oversize dice and a big bucket. I've wanted to start collecting yard size games, but they've been so expensive to buy at the store, so I decided to make one. The instructions and idea came from my Cricut Design Space. I just had to find a bucket and some wooden blocks.

Untitled

I originally was going to leave the dice unfinished with just the wood showing, but Alex really wanted to paint them. I decided that would be a fun idea, so I let him do that.

Untitled Untitled

The rest was just cutting out all the vinyl with the Cricut and applying it. It was my first big project using vinyl, so there are some very obvious mistakes, but overall I love how it turned out.

Untitled

I grabbed a scorepad from our regular (normal-sized) Yahtzee game and we headed outside to play.

Untitled

Alex really enjoyed dumping the dice from the bucket...

Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled

I think the bucket could hold another set of dice, so I might make another 5 dice, and then we can have a few games going for a bigger gathering.

Untitled

Do you have any oversize yard games? What are your favorites?

Thankful Thursday

We finally have our Christmas tree up! It's super late this year, but I'm thankful that it's finally here.
