Booksharing: The Journey That Saved Curious George

Today's book that I want to share is The Journey That Saved Curious George by Louise Borden. This is such an interesting story! I don't remember how I found this title, but I know it was on a list somewhere. Possibly a list of WW2 children's books, but I am the one that ended up reading this one.

It's the true story of how the authors of the Curious George books, Margaret and H.A. Rey, escaped Paris with their stories (Curious George being one of them) just before Germany invaded. It also gives a brief history of their lives. How they met, what inspired their writings, etc.

The story has illustrated pictures, photocopies of actual documents and journal entries, and a lot of information. The pictures make it a perfect author biography for children.

I found this fascinating as we are studying WW2 right now, and this is just one of those side stories about it that reminded me that so many people were affected.

  1. I really liked this book. I stumbled across it a few years ago and found it fascinating. Glad you found it, too.
