Creating a Masterpiece (A REVIEW)

Creating a Masterpiece Art Curriculum

Art is my absolute favorite part about homeschooling. Unfortunately, it is often the one thing that we hardly get to because we don't know what to do. Creating a Masterpiece is a great art program that makes it possible to create stunning artwork at home and gives us some direction. The Art History Program has lessons to complement any art history studies or they can be done just for fun and can be a great addition to your family's homeschool regime.

For this review we received access to all sections of the Art History program at the Creating a Masterpiece website. Since this is an online art program we can access all the art lessons from any computer with an internet connection. All of the lessons are video-based, and the materials have to be obtained ahead of time. The teacher really emphasizes good quality materials, so there may be some art materials that need to be purchased. She includes a specific materials list for each project. I love collecting good-quality materials, especially as my kiddos get older. They like to see good results, and I do too.

Getting ready to start the first project.

For the first project, I chose to do Pop Art: The Flower Pot. It used mainly markers and marker paper for the medium, so that seemed like a simpler project to start with.

A description of the first project worked on.

Even though it used only markers, it was not simple, but it is fun. She moved step-by-step through the whole lesson, so it's easy to follow, and there is a lot of freedom for creativity. I didn't have her exact colors, but I was able to make it pop and make it my own. I love how she encourages that throughout all the lessons. She gives lots of tips and hints to really help the artist succeed at making things look nice and meaningful.

Completed artwork by me (Desiree)

We have used Creating a Masterpiece before and I'm always impressed with the quality of the artwork created. These always turn out to be pieces that we want to hang up and admire for a long time. The video lessons are easy to follow and teach a lot of great techniques. The instructor is friendly and easy to listen to. If you want a good quality art program I highly recommend Creating a Masterpiece. Besides the Art History Program, there are many other courses to choose from as well including Beginning Drawing, Drawing, and 6 levels of art essentials. Here is one of my previous reviews about the Drawing program.
